Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Carson Benge homered in the sixth inning to break up Tomoyuki Sugano's no-hit bid, four New York pitchers combined to fan 11, and the Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 4-2 in Denver on Monday.
David Peterson (1-4), the third New York pitcher, fanned six in four innings of work and Devin Williams picked up his fourth save.
Mickey Moniak doubled and tripled to extend his hitting streak to 17 games and Jordan Beck tripled for Colorado, which has dropped the first four of its six-game homestand.
The game was rescheduled for 3:40 local time due to an inclement weather forecast for Monday evening.
The change benefitted Sugano early, who needed just 48 pitches to face the minimum through five innings. Sugano retired the first six batters before walking Benge leading off the third, but he was erased on a double play.
Mark Vientos nearly had New York's first hit of the game when he led off the fifth with a drive to the wall in left field.
The Mets got to Sugano (3-2) with a big sixth inning. Benge hit Sugano's 50th pitch into the Colorado bullpen to spoil the no-hit bid, and Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens followed with consecutive back-to-back doubles to make it 2-0.
Sugano left after a walk and groundout and Vientos lined a two-run single off of Jaden Hill to make it 4-0. Sugano allowed four runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Colorado broke through in the seventh when Willi Castro singled with two outs and Beck's fly ball to center fell for a triple when Benge stumbled going back for the ball. Kyle Karros followed with a single before Peterson got out of the jam.
The Rockies threatened to score in the third inning off of Austin Warren, who relieved opener Huascar Brazoban after one inning. Moniak hit a two-out double down the left-field line and Tyler Freeman followed with a sinking liner to right-center field that Benge lunged to get to end the inning.
